We are seeking an experienced server administrator capable of running the NASA/GSFC Sciences & Exploration Division Virtual Machine Environment. This includes hands-on work with hardware (monitoring / debugging, replacement of bad parts, power management), software (VMware vSphere: vCenter s/w patches/updates, ESX/ESXi hypervisor patches/updates, vCenter DB maintenance/backups, vCenter Windows server patches/updates), and storage technologies (volume creation / resizing, monitor mirror to ensure it’s in sync and a valid backup, backups to tape and restoration as needed).

Knowledge of networking technologies is also required, including network switch configuration, setting up and maintaining VLANs, and integrating disparate network architectures. Operating system support (predominantly Linux) is also expected, including patches/updates, optimization for virtualized environment, configuration to meet NASA requirements, and log monitoring.

Required:

– B.S. in a computer-related, technical, or physical science field

– Familiarity with VMware vSphere6 (vCenter Server & ESXi; Enterprise ed. or higher)

– Familiarity with storage technologies, e.g. NetApp Data ONTAP

– Experience with network architecture, switches, VLANs

– Excellent teamwork and communication skills

– Must be a US citizen

Desired:

– Red Hat Enterprise Linux / Red Hat Satellite

– VCP certification or 1+ years of full-time experience
